Mad, scary and bad

Surviving the walk to school each morning

Room for a little one

It’s been a grey, drizzly morning walk.  Such a change from the fabulous weekend, it’s almost like we’ve moved countries overnight.

Loaded up with guitar, swimming kit, the usual book bag and water, we got as far as Mill Lane before encountering the first jam of the day.  I feel for the driver coming towards us.  What else could they do, there were lots of cars behind them and cars kept driving towards them even though there was clearly nowhere to go?

The same thing happened a couple of minutes later…

Just the usual heavy traffic flow and queueing for the reset of our walk to school, the lack of large lorries and agricultural vehicles made for a less scary journey.  Mind you, coming back from school there was suddenly an outburst of car horns a fair way behind me, although  I couldn’t see what was going on.

Thanks to everyone who emailed photos to me this weekend, showing more of the chaos that’s going on each day.  Check out the photos page to see these new pictures.  Last Friday afternoon, I filmed the meeting of lorries outside school, some cracking reversing and steering all round.

There’s still time today to send your comments on the school’s car park planning application (12/3464N).  If you’re looking for inspiration for your comments, take a look at this document.  The planning committee meet this Wednesday, 2pm at the Municipal Buildings in Crewe, perhaps I’ll see you there.

My poll is still open to share your views about the situation on Broad Lane.  Thank you to everyone who has already taken part.

Today’s scores out of 10:
Traffic volume: 7
Stupid/careless parking: 3
Manners: 9
No. of cars parking illegally:0

  1. Hi. I suspect that was me with my car horn. I stopped in the road to reverse into a parking space and without leaving themselves a second to consider what I was doing a car and then a van mounted the pavement and drove at speed on the pavement to overtake me! I sounded my horn to hopefully let them know my displeasure at their dangerous and illegal driving. Insane when they are outside a primary school with kids on the pavements etc. I only got the number plate of the van, I will be reporting him to the police. Unfortunately me blasting my horn scared Isobel and probably made a few others jump. If we dont get the car park approved I am seriously going to consider moving school as its not good for anyone to start the day facing such danger and stress.
